It has been a busy couple of weeks at Laura Michele Photos! As I prepare for my upcoming newborn photo shoot, I have to resist the temptation to purchase every one of the adorable little hats and photography props that are available out there for newborns. So instead, I have taught myself how to crochet! Here is what I’ve come up with so far. I can’t wait to see them all on the new baby boy! I wonder how many other photographers make their own props, because these things are expensive!
I tried knitting a while ago, but I had a hard time with the two needles. I was most likely doing it wrong, though. Since I had read that knitting was easier than crocheting, I figured I wouldn’t even try to crochet. But then I started adding up the cost for all of these cute little newborn props, and it was decided: I am GOING to learn how to crochet! To my delight, it was much easier than I thought it would be. There are some more advanced techniques that I have yet to learn, of course, but I’ve been able to make some of the adorable props I would have paid $20+ each for! So I’m pretty happy with it. I’m so grateful for all of the wonderful patterns available online!
In addition to the hand-made items, I’ve been able to find several cute baskets and a crate, as well as plenty of blankets, wraps, and scarves. I can’t wait for this little bundle of joy to arrive! Although I’ve photographed all kinds of subjects, this will be my first professional newborn shoot! Sure, I’ve practiced plenty on my own newborns, but I’m not sure I even prepared for their births as much as I’ve prepared for this shoot! Just a few weeks to go.
